WHAT WOULD HAVE TO BE TRUE?

We want to believe. We require evidence. We want to understand how it works.

The premise is deliberately conditional: if an extraordinary UAP report accurately describes a real engineered system, what technology could produce it, what parts fit known physics, what parts require new engineering, and what signatures should exist if the hypothesis is correct?

EDITORIAL STANDARD

Every extraordinary sentence should have somewhere to stand.

Long-form does not mean padding. It means enough context that readers can see the argument, inspect the evidence, understand the uncertainty, and follow the source trail without having to trust the writer.

Observation

What was actually reported or measured? Quote sparingly. Preserve original language where it matters. Do not silently upgrade “appeared to” into “did.”

Reconstruction

Build the geometry, timing, platform state, sensor configuration, weather, traffic, astronomical environment, and processing history before arguing about mechanism.

Known mechanisms

Test conventional explanations seriously enough that they can win. A skeptical explanation should have to account for the evidence, not merely sound mundane.

Advanced mechanisms

If known explanations fail, move through developmental aerospace, electronic warfare, signature management, autonomous systems, and other realistic frontiers before invoking physics that has never produced an engineered device.

Speculative edge

Speculation is allowed. It is also labeled. The best speculative section tells the reader which physical constraints become severe, what new assumptions are required, and what observation would distinguish the idea from something less exotic.

HOUSE RULE

Alien is not the starting assumption.

The order is observation, reconstruction, known mechanisms, advanced terrestrial mechanisms, then genuinely new physics. If a mundane explanation survives the data, publish the mundane explanation. If it fails, preserve the residual honestly.

The interesting question is not merely whether something happened. It is what mechanism could make the surviving observation happen.
